Dog in Space
Acrylic on wood.
Painted as part of "The Book That Got Me" an exhibition at The Little Bookroom curated by Jess Racklyeft.
Participants were asked to create an illustration inspired by their favourite childhood book. My favourite was Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. But I assumed (incorrectly) that everyone would choose that, so I opted for In the Night Kitchen instead. That book is perfect as it is, and no one should ever mess with it. Sorry Mr Sendak: I turned your food-inspired New York skyline into stationery, and your naked protagonist into a dog. A naked dog on a paper joyride is nowhere near as hilarious as a delirious kid without clothes tumbling down from an aeroplane made of dough.
